We all have seen at least a dozen TV shows, some of them really good that stuck with us, that made us cry and gasp in surprise. Other that made us laugh or judge them by their stupidity. And there are a whole lot more right now.
They charmed us throughout the years and based on viewers rating, here are the top 10 most popular romantic TV series of all time.
Best Romantic TV Series
The TV series Bones, produced by FOX, aired for the first time on September 12, 2005 and lasted for eight seasons, while the ninth one is scheduled to air on September 16, 2013.
It is inspired by the real-life forensic anthropologist and successful writer Kathy Reich. The producer is Barry Josephson, whose resume holds names like Aliens in the Attic or Enchanted and Hart Hanson, who also produced episodes of Joan of Arcadia and The Finder.
Dr. Temperence Brennan, a gifted, but socially awkward forensic anthropologist who works at the Jeffersonian Institute in Washington DC is contacted by Seeley Booth, an ex-Army, now a Special Agent on behalf of Federal Bureau of Investigations to help them solve a series of murders by establishing the victim’s death cause based on their bone structure. Their different personalities create an explosive relationship. Their path to justices is sprinkled with a lot of problems and obstacles such as bureaucracy, corruption or lack of cooperation.

Initially broadcasted by the WB Television Network on October 16, 2001, Smallville is an American TV series based on the DC Comics character Superman. After the fifth season, the WB and UPN merged into one company, the CW television network, which continued to broadcast the TV series nationally. Created at first by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster and produced/written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, the series finally ended with season ten on May 13, 2011.

Based on the popular book series with the same name, Gossip Girl gives us an insight in the privileged teenagers’ world from a private elitist high school, Constance. Written by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage and produced by Mark Piznarski, the series captures the life of not just some very beautiful young adults from Upper East Side, New York, but also filthy rich. Here, the wealthy try to deal with constantly dramatic love stories and, at the same time, to choose their path in life by picking the best college. Blair Waldorf, along with her best friends, Kati Farkas and Isabel Coates, attend high school and pretentious parties alongside their well-healed parents. Blair is resented by her foes because it is assumed she has a perfect life, a perfect boyfriend, Nate Archibald and the better chances of getting into her dream college, Yale.
It aired for the first time on September 19, 2007 on The CW and came to an end six seasons later, on December 17, 2012. This is one of the most popular teen chick flicks of all time.
Once Upon a Time
In the seaside town of Storybrooke, Maine, strange things happen. Emma had a tough life which becomes even strenuously when she is reunited with the son she gave for adoption ten years ago, Henry. The boy communicates her a strange story: that she is the daughter of Prince Charming and Snow White and she is stuck in that town due to a curse established by the Evil Queen. She soon discovers that other fictional characters are stranded here with no recollection of their prior selves. Being the only one who remembers the past life, she has to embrace her destiny and break the curse.
Created by Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis, Once Upon a Time has received a score of 66 out from 100 on Metacritic since it first broadcasted on September 30, 2012, based on 26 reviews and a rating of 8.1 on IMDb.

Considered a phenomenon that lasted for ten years, Friends presented a lifestyle with a cultural impact that echoes till present day. Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, the story follows six friends who try to stay together, support each other while attempting to make a decent living and struggle with every day stress.
It aired for the first time on September 22, 1994 on NBC and introduced us to Monica, Ross, Rachel, Chandler, Joey and Phoebe. These are the friends. It ended after ten seasons, on May 6, 2004. The series was highly awarded, receiving no more or less than 63 Primetime Emmy Awards nominations.
Having the premiere on the American Broadcasting Company on March 27, 2005, TV series Grey’s Anatomy observes the hard lives of a handful of surgical interns and residents at SeattleGraceHospital (now renamed Grey-SloanMemorialHospital) in their run for becoming successful surgeons. The story unfolds from Meredith Grey’s perspective, following her and her fellow interns, Cristina Yang, Isabella Stevens, George O’Malley and Alex Karev, on their complicated journey of becoming world-top surgeons. Juggling every day with life and death, they try to become friends in a highly ruthless atmosphere. Over time they discover it is hard to become a doctor, but it’s ten times harder, as a doctor, to remain intact as a human being. The depth of their medical training mixed with steamy, furious and heart-breaking moments make all of them realized that there isn’t a clearly defined line between medicine and relationships, that you can not pause one aspect of your life and play the other one. Real life is not a black and white area.
Created by Shonda Rymes, now executive producer, the series was well received by critics and mass population. The tenth season is due to start on September 2013.
The Vampire Diaries
Developed by Kevin Williams and Julie Plec, The Vampire Diaries takes the notion of “vampire” and twist it around, making you fell in love with either Stefan Salvatore, the noble one who denies himself human blood as a punishment for the monster that he is or Damon Salvatore, the cheeky one who has one rule: “Just have fun”. When a girl is involved, the already shaky relationship between the two brothers becomes a constant supply of funny lines, nerve-racking moments or emotional confusion. Elena Gilbert is the living image of Katherina Petrova, the first girl that the boys fight over who, in a twist and turn, is a sneaky vampire who has been running for more than a century from the Originals.
The story focuses on their journey together and their relationships’ dynamic. Having the premier on The CW Television Network on September 10, 2009, the series received plentiful award nomination and it’s programmed to start its fifth season on October 10, 2013. This great TV show is one of the best new vampire TV shows, and it’s also filled with love and romance.
How I Met Your Mother
The series traces the history of how Ted Mosby met his wife, the mother of his two children, presented in the form of flashbacks from the future. Everything starts with the engagement announcement made by his roommate/best friend Marshall Eriksen. Marshall, after nine months of dating Lily Aldrin, a kindergarten teacher, decides that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her, ringing a bell to his mate. In his quest of finding true love tags along Barney Stinson, a true womanizer with scandalous opinions. When Ted happens to have an encounter with Robin, all things might possibly come clear, but not when karma sneaks in.
The sitcom had the premiere on CBS on September 19, 2005 and it’s programmed to end with its ninth season, which starts on September 23, 2013.

The series central character is Scott McCall, a normal high school student and, by definition, an outcast who is convinced by his best pal, Stiles, to join a police search in the woods, on night time. Looking for a dead girl, Scott stumbles upon a creature, who bites him and changes his life forever – once his transformation is complete. Scott is now a werewolf. With his best mate on his side, he tries to maintain the normal appearances. But, with the addition of positive effects, like strength and speed, the mutation brings danger and countless problems, which will test Scott’s sturdiness in keeping his loved ones safe.
Developed by Jeff Davis for MTV, the series started on June 5, 2011, its third season having the premier on June 3, 2013. Tenn Wolf is the most popular teen romance TV show featuring vampires at the moment.
Sookie Stackhouse is a waitress with telepathic abilities, who works at Merlotte’s Bar in a small town from Louisiana. When Bill Compton, a 173-years-old vampire returns in Bon Temps, her life is turned upside-down. Due to a Japanese-made synthetic blood called “True Blood”, the vampires can “come out of the coffin” and make a living among normal people, without having to face the constant need of drinking human blood. As a result, the vampire world splits in two: the ones that support this change, militating for equal rights and the ones for whom the tradition is more important.
The show explores many modern problems, like the fight for equal rights, discrimination and violence against minorities and homosexuals, the issues of addiction, the influence of religion, the media empowerment, the pursuit for identity and also the significance of family.
Broadcasted on HBO on September 7, 2008, the show received good reviews and won several awards, such as a Golden Globe or an Emmy. Produced by Alan Ball, the seventh season will have the premiere in the summer of 2014.
