OITNB Cast – Orange is the New Black

Orange is the new black cast transformed out of prison.

If you got into the swing of the ‘Orange is the New Black’ you must have had quite a feast watching the third season recently released on Netflix. If you haven’t seen the show yet, it’s definitely worth checking out. The show has been nominated for 16 Emmy’s Awards so far and won in 3 categories in 2014. Currently directors are recording a fourth season and castings for extras take place in the US. The season is rumored to come out next year.

About the show “Orange is the new black”:

‘Orange is the New Black’ is a show about the everyday ups and downs of women doing time in prison. Piper Chapman is sentenced to 15 months in low secure facility for a decade old crime of transporting drug money for her lesbian girlfriend. Before going to prison we see her with relatively settled life, with her own business that is about to take off, and a wonderful male fiance. But now she has to face the reality living in women’s prison. Reading a self-help book on surviving on a penitentiary really wasn’t enough to avoid a struggle for survival and status in this harsh environment.

Beauty of Women in OITNB

The big attraction of the 3rd season of OITNB is the appearance of Australian DJ and model – Ruby Rose, who even in a prison uniform looks absolutely breathtaking.

Rose came out as a lesbian at the age of 12 and suffered verbal taunts and abuse from her schoolmates, which led to multiple suicide attempts and suffering from bipolar disorder and depression.  Rose said she wanted to be a boy while growing up and that she was saving up money to transition from female to male. “It was in my mind as something I wanted to do and then I just… didn’t. I guess I grew out of it. I even used to sleep on my front because I didn’t want to get boobs ever, which I think worked actually.”

Rose stated that modelling led her to discover androgyny and allowed her to model with different gender expressions “I remember being at a Yum Cha restaurant with my dad and the owner coming up and saying, ‘Excuse me, we’re trying to work out if you’re a handsome boy or a beautiful girl.’ It was a compliment and I was shocked, and when I thought about it I actually wanted to be a handsome boy”.

Rose’s dating life has also been subject to media attention. In 2008, she was reported to be in a relationship with Jessica Origliasso from The Veronicas and was briefly engaged to model Lyndsey Anne McMillan. They had planned to marry but ended their relationship in late 2009.  Rose was seen kissing Australian supermodel Catherine Mc’Neill during a pool party in Los Angeles McNeil.  As of March 2014, she was reported that she is engaged to Phoebe Dahl, granddaughter of author Roald Dahl and cousin of model Sophie Dahl.  The introduction of Rose’s character in the 3rd season is sure to set the pulses of male and female views of all persuasions racing at prohibited speed.

 Uzo Aduba outside prison

Uzo Aduba as ‘Suzanne Warren / Crazy Eyes’

“I auditioned for the show back in late July or early August of [2012]. I had been auditioning that summer for more television and film and I’d read a lot of scripts and I remember reading Orange Is the New Black, and it was at the head of the pack. I remember thinking, “Wow, that is really good, I would love to be a part of that.” I went in and auditioned for another part, and my representatives called me about a month later and they were like, “Hi, we have some really good news. You remember that audition you went on for Orange Is the New Black? You didn’t get it.” I go, “So… okay, what’s the good news?” They said they wanted to offer me another part, Crazy Eyes. I was like, “What in my audition would make someone think I’d be right for a part called Crazy Eyes?” But to be honest, when I got the script for it, it felt like the right fit.

Casting director Jennifer Euston explains the selection of Aduba for the role thus: “Uzo Aduba…had her hair in those knots for the audition…They saw something amazing in her and were able to connect it to what they were looking for in Crazy Eyes.” In joining the series, Aduba obtained her Screen Actors Guild card “I was just like, ‘Wow, this means I’m a full actor now.’ It was such a big deal, and I remember being so thankful and feeling so proud.”
