What lies ahead for Westeros in the upcoming season 4 premiere of HBO’s Game of Thrones?
House Stark’s prospects are dim now that Robb and Catelyn is dead, murdered by the traitorous bannerman Roose Bolton and Walder Frey at the Red Wedding.
Jon Snow, Ned’s illegitimate son is now back in the Castle Black after receiving grievous arrow wounds from his wilding lover, Ygritte.

Sansa has been forced to a reluctant marriage with Tyrion Lannister, brilliantly portrayed by Peter Dinklage. Arya Stark is currently in the hands of the Hound, Sandor Clegane.
The two youngest Stark boys Bran and Rickon are believed to be dead and continue to be fugitives, with Bran intending to go over the Wall.
The Lannisters are definitely faring much better with the death of the King of the North. Jaime is back in King’s Landing, albeit one hand less. Joffrey, the hateful, hateful Joffrey is still an insufferable sociopath. Frankly speaking, he’s the character the I want to die the most. Tywin Lannister has a firm grip on the affairs of his house, successfully orchestrating the Sansa and Tywin’s wedding, as well as continuing to pressure Cercei to marry Loras Tyrell to forge an alliance between the families.
Game of Thrones Season 4 Trailer
Another major mover in the series, Daenerys Targaryen, continues to strengthen her army in season 4. She has come a long way from being the meek, oft abused sister of Viserys to a formidable leader of her forces. She was last seen freeing the slaves of Yunkai, further expanding the might of her force.
Perhaps the one who suffered the most in all the characters of the previous season is Theon Greyjoy. His comeuppance for betraying the Starks is proving to be very severe, as he has been broken and continues to be tormented and tortured by Ramsay Snow, the bastard son of Roose Bolton.

What I’ve always found compelling about the Game of Thrones is that despite having a fantastic setting with magic, dragons, and whatnot, that always took a backseat compared to the intrigue, the politics, and the general interaction between the various characters in the series. But I am quite expecting more about the White Walkers though. They’ve been hanging over the heads of everyone in Westeros that I can’t help but want to see more of them and take bigger part in the development of the story.
It is also fun to see the evolution of characters such as Jaime Lannister, Daenerys, and the Hound. Sandor Clegane, in particularly has been thoroughly explored these past few seasons. Initially I thought of him as nothing more than a hired thug, a strong arm for Joffrey, but he’s proven to be a more compassionate than his rough, outer appearance implies.
And finally, the release date for the 4th season of Game of Thrones will be April 6th, 2014, on HBO. The multi-awarded series is based on George R.R. Martin’s series of novels, A Song of Ice and Fire.
