Is there going to be a season 8 of the popular sci-fi TV show Doctor Who? What is the air date for the premiere of Doctor Who’s 8th season?

BBC has confirmed that there is going to be a eight season of Doctor Who, but the date is not known for sure. November 23 2013 is the premiere for the 50th anniversary special. This Doctor Who special will future: Matt Smith, David Tennant, John Hurt, Jenna-Louise Coleman and Billie Piper. It will be available in 3D and will be more than 1 hour long.

Peter Capaldi in Doctor Who Season 8

BBC’s long-running sci-fi show, Doctor Who, ended it’s 7th season last May, and fans of the show are eagerly waiting for the return of the iconic Time Lord.

Doctor Who has been around for quite a while. In fact, the show will be airing a special episode for its 50th anniversary on the 23rd of November. The TV special is entitled “The Day of the Doctor” and will be simultaneously broadcast on several countries as part of the celebration. Movie houses in the UK would also be showing the anniversary special in 3D. Matt Smith will be reprising his role as the 11th incarnation of the Doctor on the special episode.

There is still no definite premiere date for start of the 8 season, but it is expected to air sometime around August of 2014. Matt Smith, who played the Doctor since  2010, would be passing the role to Scottish actor/director Peter Capaldi. Reactions to the casting choice is generally favorable, as fans of the show believe that Capaldi has much to offer to the upcoming season. I have to admit that I’m not that familiar with the works of the Scottish thespian, but judging from what I’ve read about him, he should be able to portray a more mature doctor, without sacrificing the wit and the funnies when the situation calls for it.

Prior to accepting the role, Capaldi worked on numerous films and TV shows. His role as Malcolm Tucker in the 2009 film, In the Loop, earned him numerous awards and nominations. He also bagged a British Academy Television Award for Best Comedy Performance, and two British Comedy Award for Best Television Actor for his role on BBC’s The Thick of It. Jenna Coleman, who plays as Clara Oswald, has also said that Capaldi would be an “incredible incarnation” of the doctor. Capaldi is also very eager to tackle the job. He said “Being asked to play The Doctor is an amazing privilege. Like the Doctor himself I find myself in a state of utter terror and delight. I can’t wait to get started.”

Capaldi has been a fan  of the show since he was nine and I believe his passion for the show and the character will give him that extra something to be a very memorable Doctor Who. Fans of the show are continuing to wait at the edge of their seats waiting to see Capaldi in the TARDIS.

Love the show was introduced in the early 80’s and want to get all seasons but cannot find any thing except for those which have been on in the 2000’s till today. I wish they offered a box set for all seasons on BBC America shops but sadly they do not.
